MULTAN:
A woman, who slaughtered two girls over personal dispute in Lodhran district, was arrested by police on Wednesday.
Lodhran District Police Officer Asad Sarfraz told The Express Tribune that earlier in February 2017, accused Kanwal murdered two innocent girls identified as three-year-old Alisha and Sonia, 10, as she had a personal dispute with their parents. “The accused slit the throats of both girls with a sharp knife while they were present in a park,” he added.
He said, “Both victims died at Victoria Hospital due to fatal injuries. The DPO maintained, “The police have arrested Kanwal after a search operation while investigation is underway.”
He said the exact cause of the murder will be ascertained after thorough investigation.
Sarfraz pointed out the murder weapon had also been recovered from the site of the incident and all evidence related to the matter had been gathered.
“I have issued instructions to the relevant SHO and investigation officer of Kahror Pacca City police station to register a viable and strong case against the accused so that she could be awarded exemplary punishment.”
The DPO expressed condolences to the parents of Alisha and Sonia. He ensured them that strict punishment will be awarded to Kanwal. Later, Sarfraz and other officials attended the funeral of the victims.
Meanwhile, the family members of the victims told the police that accused Kanwal also tried to kill the girls a few months back but was pardoned by their parents following a public apology. However, this time she succeeded in her nefarious designs, they added.
Similarly, residents of the area told The Express Tribune that Kanwal had a dispute with the parents of Sonia and Alisha. They said Kanwal took revenge from them by killing their daughters.
Earlier in June 2016, 43-year-old Muhammad Irshad’s throat was slit at a marketplace in Burewala by his father-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
The assailants were armed with knives and hatchets and after inflicting several wounds on Irshad’s body they slit his throat.
Irshad had married Mussarat Bibi about an year ago and fled as he feared his in-laws would kill him, but he had returned to see his parents.
