One piece, three ways: Hajra Hayat

While trends fade, style remains eternal and one piece can be put together in many different ways. In this feature we have three fashionistas showing us how to put together an item from a designers collection, according to their own individual style and taste!



This delicately embellished shirt is from Hajra Hayat’s collection titled ‘Fleur Enchantee’. The designer has used pure chiffon fabric, in a smoky-grey colour and embellished it with pearls and crystals. The most unique element about this ensemble is that fine calligraphy has been done in between the motifs. If you take a closer look, you will see that the design incorporates letters from the beautiful language of Urdu.

I chose to pair this lovely Hajra Hayat shirt with sharara pants for a flattering daytime look. I styled my outfit with traditional jhumkas, a silver clutch by Jimmy Choo, ‘Hangisi’ pumps by Manolo Blahnik and lastly, my wedding ring. I think my fun, voluminous blowout complemented the attire and the look I was aiming for. Overall, I’d say this makes an effortlessly chic outfit to wear to a daytime wedding.

My personal style is minimal. I like to mix things up, for instance I’d wear a sherwani with a skirt. This Hajra Hayat shirt felt like a kurta when I tried it on, so I paired it with ripped boyfriend jeans. I finished the look with a gold and pearl teeka that I wore on one side to add to the unorthodox vibe of my outfit. I wore my ‘Layla Pom-Pom’ sandals by Sophia Webster to give my ensemble a quirky touch. My teeka and ring was by Hamna Amir who makes some seriously swanky jewellery. Since I have a bob haircut, I feel nothing looks better on me than messy waves. I would wear this outfit to a formal, pre-wedding or anniversary brunch.

My personal style is very versatile. I like mixing and matching pieces together according to my mood! I styled Hajra Hayat’s bridal shirt with a plain net sharara as the shirt makes a statement on its own, and I didn’t want to take away from it. I belted the dupatta to add some oomph to the outfit. For my make-up I went for intense smoky eyes with mauve lipstick and some highlighter on my cheeks. For my hair I opted for big, beachy waves. I would wear this ensemble to a sangeet or to a mehndi.
