LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court has sought replies from the Punjab government and police authorities by March 17 on a petition filed by PPP leader Shaukat Basra seeking state protection. On Tuesday, Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali also directed the Punjab police chief and Lahore SSP Operations to ensure no untoward incident took place and the petitioner was not killed in any fake encounter. Advocate Sardar Khurram Latif Khosa appeared on behalf of Shaukat and alleged the PML-N government had hatched a conspiracy to kill the petitioner. Suspects involved in a recent assassination attempt on the PPP leader were being provided cover and had been threatening him and his family, he alleged. He asked the court to order the government and police to provide Shaukat and his family adequate security to ensure their fundamental right of protection.
