In response to a story titled, ‘Three Airports: CAA thrusts itself into privatisation role’ published in The Express Tribune, the Civil Aviation Authority has said that it is not conducting the “privatisation transaction to hand over Pakistan’s three international airports”.

“Privatisation is the process of divesting the government stake, both in terms of money and control from public companies, however, outsourcing is contracting with another company to do a particular function,” stated the CAA in a statement issued on Monday.

“The new Aviation Policy 2015 envisages that Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models would also be followed to improve revenue streams and quality of service. The airports in Pakistan would always be government-owned and still remain the property of the government. CAA’s primary goal is to ensure safety and efficiency of airport operations and passenger satisfaction through outsourcing.”
