Seven months on: BIEK hands over 8,000 plus answer sheets to ACE
Board under investigation for corruption, tampering of exam results
KARACHI:
The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) handed over more than 8,000 answer sheets to the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in a follow-up of the raid ACE conducted at the board office in August, 2016.
"We have handed over the answer sheets of all the students bearing A and A-one grades in the annual examination results of 2016," BIEK Chairperson Prof Dr Inam Ahmed told The Express Tribune.
Ahmed also said that BIEK has received several letters from ACE requesting that they be allowed to retain the answer sheets for further investigation in the matter of corruption in examinations and the tampering of results.
Delay in results: BIEK pins blame on ACE raids
The last letter from ACE requested us to hand over the answer copies by Saturday, March 11, but the board office was closed over the weekend, said Ahmed, adding that he, after informing the universities and boards secretary Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, handed over the answer sheets on Monday.
"The board has handed over copies of pre-medical and pre-engineering students who scored 70+ marks in their annual examinations of 2016," confirmed Ahmed.
"The board does not keep answer sheets with them after six months of the announcement of results," he said, adding that the answer sheets were kept because of the controversial ACE raid and the investigations od the board officials over their involvement in corruption.
‘ACE raid brought two depts at war’
Answering if this investigation would affect the supplementary results which are scheduled to be announced, Ahmed replied that the results had been delayed because the controller was transferred but the board will announce them today (Tuesday).
ACE officials were not available for comments.
