Taking the lead: Education dept computerises 20-year record
As a new initiative, students will be provided degrees along with result cards.

The record of education department for the last 20 years has been computerised while amendments are being made to change old rules and regulations as part of reforms process. The steps will help a great deal in promoting merit at all levels.
This was said by Punjab Higher Education Minister Syed Raza Ali Gillani during his visit to Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Multan on Monday.
The minister said as part of a new initiative, the students would be provided degrees along with the result cards.
“All resources are being utilised to provide relief to the students with the help of technology. The computerised system of education board has been upgraded and vigilance teams are monitoring the examination centres to ensure transparency,” Gillani added. He said foolproof security arrangements had been taken in and around examination centres.
He maintained, “Now students would be facilitated through final tracking system. From attainment of roll numbers to the checking of exam papers, students can get access to the system and this step will help in winning the confidence of students.”
He said funds would be provided in the current year for development projects and more people would be hired on vacant seats. He pointed out the board officers who will perform their duties efficiently would be awarded shields and appreciation certificates. He also announced to provide bonus to the employees welfare association.
The minister said, “The policies are being made to eradicate corruption from education system and steps are being taken to conduct examinations in December every year.”
He said that opinions of various stakeholders, particularly the education experts, were being considered to develop system of education on modern lines.
Raza Ali directed the education officers and staff to work with honesty and sincerity. He ensured the Punjab government would provide financial aid to the diligent staff.
He expressed resentment over the marking system of matriculation and intermediate levels. He directed the Education Board Chairperson Professor Riyaz Ahmad Hashmi to improve the system of marking. He said, “It is our priority to monitor merit at all costs and deserving candidates should get marks on the basis of merit.”
He directed the chairperson to improve the system of re-evaluation and rechecking of exams. He said sub-examiners should be hired and payments should be made immediately to the paper checkers. He instructed to make at least three layers of paper checking system to ensure merit and transparency.
On the occasion, the minister visited the facilitation centre and also inaugurated newly built video conference hall. He also participated in the ground breaking ceremony of secrecy complex of education board. The secrecy complex would be completed with the cost of Rs450 million.
Later, the minister visited Bahauddin Zakariya University to attend syndicate meeting.
