PPP leader shot dead in Lahore
Unidentified gunmen opened fire on Babar Sohail Butt in the city’s Manawan area
Unidentified gunmen shot dead Pakistan Peoples Party leader Babar Sohail Butt in Lahore late Sunday night, several news channels reported.
The former candidate for the Punjab Assembly was attacked in the Manawan area of the provincial capital, according to the reports. He was brought to the Services Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The Pakistan Peoples Party issued a statement condemning Butt’s murder and postponed the planned interviews of party candidates that chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had arrived in Lahore to conduct. PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira urged the government bring those behind the killing to justice.
“They are still trying to silence us. Hope an investigation is conducted, anyone involved should be prosecuted,” tweeted Bilawal’s sister Aseefa following the incident.
