PGF event signifies golf's growth among women
Tournament featuring 60 of Pakistan's finest set to commence on Saturday

A total of sixty women golfers from all over the country will be in action when the second Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) Ladies Amateur Golf Championship tees off at the Karachi Golf Club (KGC) on Saturday.
The sport, per KGC Lady Captain Fawzia Naqvi, is gaining popularity among women in Pakistan, leading the KGC and PGF to facilitate such all-female events.
“This ladies event gives the ladies a platform to hone their skills and practice for the main championships," she said.
Former Lady Captain of the KGC Ms Soomro finds it heartening that the country's women are finally finding golf interesting. “About a decade ago, one could hardly see a woman on the golf course, but now it is a reality,” she said.
The field includes Fawzia herself, Ghazala Yasmin (Islamabad), Aania Farooq (KGC), Humaira Khalid (KGC/ DHA), another ex-KGC Lady Captain Durdana Soomro, Asma Shami (Lahore), and Yasmin Mubarak (Islamabad) among others.
Pakistan's senior most woman golfer Ayesha Saeed, 80, will also grace the tournament with her presence to inspire the next generation of players.
