KARACHI:
Sindh police ASI Rubina Shaheen and her four-year-old son sat outside Karachi Press Club on International Women’s Day to protest sexual harassment by senior police officials in the department.

She sat outside the press club in fear of being abducted for speaking out against the senior officials. “I’m currently posted at the Sindh Assembly but I don’t know what the department is going to do with me now for exposing the senior officials,” she said, naming the Sindh IG as well

According to her, she has been harassed since the day she joined police department on merit in the first batch of female ASIs in 2002. She alleged the then district police officer of Hyderabad, Allah Dino Khawaja, harassed her and removed her from her job.

She added that she was reinstated by the department in 2003 but the attitude of the police officers has damaged her life due to depression.

Shaheen said she has a hearing in the high court regarding the harassment allegations today (Thursday) but fears that she will not be allowed to reach court. She claimed the IG, SHO of the Brigade police station and SHO of districts South and East would be responsible if she goes missing and demanded the chief minister provide security to her and investigate the matter.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Sindh IG denied the allegations levelled against him. “The IG is an honest officer and this woman is propagating against him under nefarious design,” he said, adding that there was no pressure on anyone to harass or abduct her.
