The co-founders of Miaasa, the hottest new shoe brand in town, unlock their vault. Browse through their trendy collection and learn how these two talented ladies fell in love with footwear in the first place

How/when did you get interested in footwear?

We always thought that there was a lack of options in the footwear market. It was hard to find shoes, which were good value for money in terms of comfort and quality. It was also challenging to find versatile styles that would fit the Eastern and Western panache. Our love for shoes inspired us to create a range, which look as good as they feel, while being affordable.

What are your favourite shoes in your collection?

We love our espadrilles — they are a true labour of love. Also the velvet crossovers are an excellent example of Miaasa’s philosophy for style and comfort.



Is there any shoe you are emotionally attached to and why?

Miara: Each shoe has a special place in my heart but I’m especially partial towards the ‘Liquid Gold’ and ‘Cinderelli’ flats. They are both so versatile and are the perfect accessory for any outfit.

Saadia: Due to my love for glitter, my favourite pairs are the tassel flats and the glitter espadrilles.

Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite shoes:

Miara: I ended a friendship over a pair of shoes — that’s all I’m going to say!

Saadia: I came across this quaint shoe boutique while I was in Paris. It had a long line outside, every time I passed by. I spent three consecutive days going and standing in the line for an hour each day, but I would always get fed up and walk away. On my last day, I dedicated two hours to get inside, only to come across a gorgeous pair that were a size too small for me. I bought them anyway, and curse myself every time I wear it. I truly have a love-hate relationship with those shoes.

Is there anything on your radar that you want to get in the future?

We are about to launch our e-store and we just had an exhibition. We are also working on launching our range of heels and wedges, and hope to open a retail outlet sometime in the future.
