ABBOTTABAD: Over a 1,000 terrorists were arrested and produced before the court of law as the spectre of terrorism fell in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa over the past two years, however, there was still a lurking danger from terrorism.

Addressing a police Darbar at the police lines in Abbottabad on Saturday, K-P Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani said that the during Operation Zarb-e-Azb, the army had successfully destroyed key hideouts of extremists and brought peace to the country.

He added that the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) had played an equally important role, carrying out 1,200 counter-terror operations and arrested 1,192 terrorists who were produced before the court of law.

“However, the police force must remain vigilant to combat the lurking danger,” he said. “K-P police have rendered great sacrifices during this operation [Zarb-e-Azb] and I feel proud of being the chief of K-P police,” Durrani added, claiming that the spectre of terrorism had witnessed a considerable decline, especially over the past two years.

The outgoing IG said that for the first time a system of accountability had been introduced in the police department and this initiative had helped improve the performance of K-P police and made it a role model across the country.

Durrani added that as part of their police reforms, seven police training schools had opened across the province to help police perform their duties with the help of modern technology.
