PU terminates 37 contract faculty members

As many as 37 retired faculty members, who were working on contract basis at the Punjab University, have been terminated from service with immediate effect.

When contacted, PU Spokesperson Khurram Shahzad said that the decision was taken to ease the financial burden of the university.

He added that the decision was taken in light of the judgment by the Supreme Court of Pakistan that bars hiring retired officials.


The retired contract faculty members, who were working on contract basis after their retirement, were not producing any research work.

He added the university would focus on giving new people space to work at the varsity.

He, however, clarified that these faculty members could work as visiting faculty members and could also supervise research work at the varsity.
