PESHAWAR: The first phase of the Inactivated Polio Vaccination (IPV) campaign ended, exceeding the set target in five districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). The campaign was carried out in Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda and Swabi districts.

According to the data gathered by the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), the total target of the IPV campaign was set at 556,211, whereas the coverage remained 560,942. During the campaign some 322 teams were formed to vaccinate children at fixed sites, while 2076 outreach teams and 2404 security personnel were deployed to ensure immunisation and security cover to the teams.

EOC coordinator Akbar Khan termed the first phase as successful and hoped that the next two phases will also achieve its target. The nest two phases will be launched in March and April, respectively, with a focus on the southern districts of the province.
