Health care: Counselling unit set up for HIV/AIDS patients

LAHORE:
The Punjab government has set up a psychological support unit exclusively for providing counselling services to patients of HIV/AIDS as well as those afflicted with hepatitis B and C.

This was announced by the Punjab AIDS Control Programme (PACP) director, Dr Adnan Zafar, in a meeting of programme managers at the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department.

“The psychological support unit will provide services in behavioural therapy and mental state examination,” he was quoted as saying in a statement.


The unit will be based in the PACP’s Institute of Public Health. Besides providing services for HIV/AIDS patients, the unit will also cater to hepatitis B and C patients.

The PACP and Punjab Hepatitis Control Programme have jointly developed programme and communication synergy.
