Five suspected terrorists allegedly belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its breakaway faction Jamaatul Ahrar (JuA) were killed during an encounter in the Layyah district of southern Punjab.

According to Express News, the terrorists were planning an attack in Multan. The report said Punjab Police Counter Termism Department (CTD) carried out a raid on the basis of a tip off in the late hours of Saturday.

During the ensuing firefight, five militants were killed.  It is believed that a couple of terrorists also managed to escape taking advantage of the night. The CTD said it also recovered arms and ammunition – including hand grenades – during the raid.

The security forces have mounted search operations across the country in the wake of the recent series of terror attacks across the country. So far more than 100 suspected terrorists have been killed during encounters.
