MIRPUR: The state-run Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) has been ranked among the top varsities of the country in a quality check by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The Quality Assurance Agency of HEC gave 86.47 per cent marks to MUST, official sources said.

The Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Mechanism of MUST was assessed on already defined parameters that obtained 86.47 per cent score.

In a recent letter addressed to MUST VC Dr Habibur Rehman the Quality Assurance Agency said: "It is appreciated that under the dynamic leadership of the VC, the progress of IQA Mechanism at your Degree Awarding Institution (DAI) is accelerating in a well-organised manner. It is expected that the progress will further enhance in future", the letter added.

Dr Rehman said MUST has improved its score from bellow 50 per cent to more than 84 per cent among the DAIs.

Owing to its performance the allocation for the institution has been increased to Rs1 billion from Rs350 million three years ago.
