Sami, Sohail give Sindh edge in Pentangular Cup final

Haider’s rescue act helps Balochistan fight back.

KARACHI:

A 107-run eighth-wicket partnership between Rizwan Haider and Abdur Rauf saved Balochistan blushes after they were reduced to 180 for seven on the first day of their Pentagular Cup final against Sindh. Balochistan were dismissed for 299 before Sindh reached 65 for one at the end of day one.

Opener Khurram Manzoor, with an unbeaten 38, was the top scorer for Sindh. His innings was laced with six boundaries. Manzoor and Khalid Latif put on 48 in quick time before Latif was dismissed by Mohammad Irfan for 14.

Balochistan batting falters

Earlier, put into bat, Balochistan wasted a good start by openers Shoaib Khan Junior (23) and Zain Abbas (17) who put on 43 for the first wicket. A double-strike by Mohammad Sami saw both of them being bowled, with Balochistan finding themselves in a spot of bother.

A 54-run fourth wicket partnership between Saeed Anwar Junior (47) and Naved Yasin (22) gave the innings some respectability before Sindh’s bowlers struck again. A rescue act by Haider, who top-scored with 81, and Rauf (45), led the fightback.

Balochistan were victims of the in-form Sami and Sohail Khan, who equally shared six wickets between them.

Fast-bowler Anwar Ali claimed a brace while leg-spinner Danish Kaneria took one wicket for Sindh.
