Maardan clash: Two policemen, four militants killed
Nine people injured in the encounter.
MARDAN:
Two policemen and four militants were killed while 10 others, including nine police personnel, were injured during a clash in Mardan district on Tuesday, police said.
Police officials said that the clash took place in the Iranabad area, in the limit of the Par Hoti Police Station. They said that the police were informed of the militants’ presence in the area but upon the arrival of the police mobile, the militants opened fire on the vehicle. Two policemen were killed on the spot while eight other officials were injured. A resident working in the area was also injured in the crossfire. Police said that four militants were killed in the clash while four hand grenades, two Kalashnikovs and three pistols were recovered from the custody of the militants.
Officials said that earlier, brother of an ASI was also killed in an encounter with militants in the limits of Chura Police Station. Mardan is home to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and is the province’s second largest city after Peshawar.
Tuesday’s incident was the second of its kind in the city during the ongoing month.
On March 1st at least 35 female students were injured in a grenade attack on a girls’ college in Landkhwar area of the district.
