Sabir continues Tour monopoly

KARACHI:

Tour de Pakistan continued to its sixth day with Wapda’s Sabir Ali maintaining his lead ahead of Asif Junior of Sindh. Sabir, who covered the 90-kilometre distance in two hours 36 minutes and 34 seconds as the sixth stage concluded from Multan to Bahawalpur, stretched his overall lead to two minutes. Asif, Sabir’s main competitor in the 13-day race, finished second in stage six, 10 seconds slower than the Wapda cyclist.

Wapda’s Muhammad Ibrahim secured the third spot after clocking two hours 36 minutes and 54 seconds.

While Sabir enjoyed his lead as the race heads to its seventh stage, Asif played his cards smartly on the 90-kilometre track. “The other five cyclists on my team are way behind me,” Asif told The Express Tribune. “So I was forced to look at other options and form a strategy with other teams.”

“Wapda are a strong pack, so I formed a strategy with them. Sometimes we need to do this to get ahead; it’s a matter of mutual interest.”

Asif is placed fifth on the overall chart after stage six as the cyclists gear up for a distance of 154 kilometres from Multan to Sahiwal today.
