Transportation: Inefficient system denting GDP
The inefficient transport system continues to inflict a loss of between 4 to 6% to GDP
KARACHI:
The inefficient transport system continues to inflict a loss of between 4 to 6% to GDP, said Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum (PBIF) President Mian Zahid Hussain. Improving transport infrastructure can help boost GDP therefore, the government should immediately frame a national transport policy, he said.
Hussain said that all sub-sectors of transport including roads, railways, ports, and aviation need immediate attention but railways should be given preference to speed up transportation and reduce losses. He said that improving transport infrastructure requires heavy investment therefore the government should invite local and foreign investors to this sector.
