Police request photographs of ‘unclaimed bodies’ be published in Karachi newspapers
Despite efforts, the accused remained untraceable and the identities of the five victims could not be established
KARACHI:
Police officials, on Friday, asked the Sindh information department to have information about ‘unclaimed’ bodies found in Karachi published in newspapers.
The said request was made in a report submitted to a District West judicial magistrate in compliance with an earlier court order given by the magistrate.
Unclaimed bodies: Police exhume body in search of missing man
On February 2, an investigating officer had informed the court that the bodies of five men, found shot dead near the Lyari River within the limits of Mauripur police station last year, still remained unidentified. The court had directed the police to develop a website to provide complete information regarding unclaimed bodies in order to trace their relatives.
Filing a report regarding compliance of the court’s order, the investigation officer informed on Friday that the search for the relatives of the deceased persons was underway, but no concrete evidence had been found so far.

Cases, commonly known as A-class reports, against the unknown accused have been registered, police said. However, the police maintained before the court that despite efforts, the accused remained untraceable and the identities of the five victims could not be established either.
In compliance with the order, the police requested the provincial government to have photographs of the bodies, and other related information, published in newspapers to collect information to trace family members of the deceased.
The court’s order regarding the website in this regard was also conveyed to the police high-ups for compliance, they added.
