GILGIT:
After Gilgit-Baltistan was blanketed by heavy snow with avalanches and landslides reported in many areas, the government said they were still assessing the extent of the damage.

However, most roads had been cleared while power had been restored.

“All link roads have been cleared of snow while electricity has been restored in the affected areas,” said the Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Minister for Information, Planning and Development Iqbal Hassan on Friday.

He added that the government was trying to repair and reconstruct the bridges and roads which had been affected due to the avalanches and landslides during the recent heavy torrential rains and snowfall in G-B.

According to Hassan, the government was still assessing the damage in the affected areas so that relief could be provided to residents of these areas accordingly.

The minister said work on removal of snow and rehabilitation of electricity at the remote areas of Gadar is expected to be completed soon.
