Protecting minority: US envoy lauds welfare projects for minorities

LAHORE: The development projects initiated in Punjab particularly for the betterment of minorities and protection of human rights will usher in a new era of development and progress of Pakistan. This was said by US Consul General Huriy Fedkiw on Friday in a meeting with Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sindhu on Friday.

He appreciated measures taken by the Punjab government for progress and prosperity of the province.

Speaking on the occasion, Khalil said to ensure protection of minorities, the Punjab government is providing them government jobs through 5% mandatory quota. Stipends amounting to Rs30 million are being distributed among the minority students annually, he said.

Pakistan is making rapid progress under the present political leadership and the human rights situation in the country had substantially improved particularly relating to promotion and implementation of international human rights standards.
