Police have arrested 51 suspects in an ongoing operation against the use of drugs at higher education institutes in the capital.
Officials said this a day after police had apprehended three students who were involved in supplying drugs on campuses across Islamabad.
Saddar Zone SP Zeeshan Haider, who is supervising the campaign, told The Express Tribune on Thursday that they had busted several suspects supplying drugs to university students in the capital over the past few weeks. “We have arrested 51 suspects and registered over 40 FIRs in the Saddar circle police stations during the operation so far,” Haider said.

Among the contraband recovered, Haider said alcohol was the most common, recovering 40,973 bottles of liquor, 300 litres of alcohol. Moreover, officials said they had recovered 14.1kg of hashish, 415 grammes of heroin, and 350 ecstasy pills.
Meanwhile, police said that two suspects caught on Wednesday, Walid Shamim and Mohammad Irfan, were presented before a judicial magistrate on Thursday who sent them to jail on judicial remand. Ramna police had also arrested a student of Preston University for allegedly supplying drugs inside the varsity campus located in Sector H-8.
The SP said that the operation was launched on the directives of Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan to curb the use of drugs at various universities in the capital.
