In the saddle: Mohammad Zubair takes oath as 32nd Sindh governor
Identifies law and order, economic revival as his top priorities
KARACHI:
A leader of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and incumbent head of the Privatisation Commission Mohammad Zubair Umar on Thursday took oath as the 32nd governor of Sindh in a ceremony held at the Governor House in Karachi.
Sindh High Court Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah administered the oath.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Assembly’s Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, Opposition Leader Khawja Izharul Hasan, Federal Minister of State for information Marriyum Aurangzeb and Senator Nehal Hashmi were among the dignitaries who attended the ceremony. Sindh’s chief secretary, Karachi’s corps commander, Rangers director general, Sindh police chief and diplomats were also among the invitees.
A large number of the PML-N activists were also present in the marquee and greeted Zubair with the trademark PML-N slogans – Aaya Aaya Sher Aaya, Jeay Nawaz Sharif, Muslim League Zindabad. Responding to their greetings, the newly appointed governor waved and flashed the victory sign.
After the ceremony, the governor visited the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam and paid tribute to the Father of the Nation. Talking to media, he said it was a remarkable day in his life as he had been sworn in at the same place where the Father of the Nation had taken oath as the first governor general of Pakistan.
He thanked PM Nawaz Sharif for nominating him for this coveted position.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif congratulated Zubair on assuming the office of governor.
Talking to APP after the ceremony, Marriyum Aurangzeb emphasised that the appointment of Muhammad Zubair as Sindh governor was in conformity with the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for peace, tranquility and economic development. (WITH ADDITIONAL INPUT BY APP)
