According to the Student of the Year actor, signing commercial films is a "conscious decision" by him. "It's a conscious decision for me because you need the film to do well also and masala commercial films actually are films everyone within the country can watch," Varun stated, at a recent press conference.

The star lauded the Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan for choosing to make films which appeal to everyone. "I am just trying to make that attempt, which the Khans do wonderfully... They make films for the entire country. Even Akshay Kumar or Hrithik Roshan make them for everyone," he said. "My attempt is only that I can make films which everyone in the country can watch and enjoy."

Asked if he would like to explore the genre of his film Badlapur again, Varun responded, "I will, 100%. End of the year, there will be a surprise coming up."

Varun - who was last seen in the 2016's Dishoom - already has two films in his kitty for 2017: Judwaa 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhania.
The former is a second instalment of the Salman Khan's 1997 comedy hit Judwaa and is set to release on September 29.

"It is a daunting thing," Varun said, of filling Salman's shoes. "I just want to put my head down and work on Judwaa 2. I don't think I can talk much of it because anything I say is going to be less... I am just playing two characters that people can love," he added.

Badrinath Ki Dulhania, which also stars Varun's Student of the Year co-star Alia Bhatt, is directed by Shashank Khaitan. Produced by Hiroo Yash Johar and Karan Johar , the film is set to hit the screens on March 10.
