ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Wednesday passed seven bills, including the National Commission for Rights of Children Bill 2016.

The house also passed a resolution condemning the attack on an Islamic centre in Canada. The resolution read: “The house thanks Canadian Prime minister Justin Trudeau for condemning the terrorist attack and resolving to protect all religions.”

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq was in the chair when the house started its proceedings at 10:30. Other bills passed by the assembly included the Benami Transactions (prohibition) Bill, 2017; the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils (Amendment) Bill, 2016; the Companies (Appointment of Legal Advisers) Amendment Bill, 2016; the Explosive Substances (Amendment) Bill, 2016; Illegal Ejection Bill, 2016; and the Limited Liabilities Partnership Bill, 2016. Law Minister Zahid Hamid moved these bills.

The opposition members opposed the National Commission for Rights of Children Bill and argued that the minimum age of children should not be reduced from 16 to 14. They said the bill should be sent back to the standing committee.

According to Online, PPP member Shagufta Jumani said she had submitted a resolution on the statements made by US President Donald Trump against Muslims and it should be discussed.
