SUKKUR: Scores of citizens staged on Wednesday a rally in favour of the Sukkur SSP as a token of appreciation for his efforts in improving the law and order situation in the district.

Carrying placards, the people staged a rally which started from Muhammad Bin Qasim Park. Marching through the main roads of the city, the rally culminated outside the SSP office. The participants shouted slogans in favour of Sukkur SSP Amjad Ahmed Shaikh who according to them, has ‘rooted out’ crimes from the district.

Since the posting of Shaikh as the SSP last year, the crime rate in Sukkur has dropped to almost 0%, one of the participants, Muhammad Ali told The Express Tribune. Before his [Shaikh’s] posting, motorcycle and mobile snatching was rampant.

Another participant, Ghaffar Qureshi, lauding the efforts of Shaikh said that since his posting, not a single case of motorcycle or mobile theft has taken place. “Other social evils, including drug and gambling dens have also been rooted out,” Qureshi added.
