LAHORE:
In order to ease congestion and address security threats, authorities have decided to relocate and demolish Sheikhupura’s regional police officer’s office at the Police Qurban Lines.

The office the of Sheikhupura RPO is currently situated at Police Qurban Lines, Lahore, along with lots of other offices including the Mujahid Squad, Police Response Unit, Dolphin Squad, City Traffic Police and Telecommunication Department.

Qurban Lines also houses the offices of Special Branch, the control room of the Punjab Integrated Centralised Command and Control System (Punjab Safe City Authorities). The office of SP City Traffic Police was also established in the police lines just a few months back.

This not only caused congestion at Qurban Lines, but also posed a security threat due to the concentration of so many important offices in one place.

A decision to update traffic police lines and shift the offices to some other locations has been taken to resolve the issue of congestion and security, a statement issued by the police department said on Tuesday. Shifting and construction of other offices of senior police officers, including the CCPO office, DIG operations, DIG investigations, Dolphin Squad Police Lines was also on the cards.

As a first step to relocate RPO Sheikhpura Office, authorities have ordered its demolition. Documents available with The Express Tribune show the AIG Development, via a telephonic message, conveyed that as per the directives of the IGP Punjab, the office has been vacated by RP0 Sheikhupura and now it needs to be demolished. Hence, the estimated cost of demolition and clearing debris has been estimate at Rs1.439 million.

The work will be carried out through competitive tender/quotations by a government-approved contractor. Bidding of the tender for dismantling will be conducted on February 20 at 2:00 pm. The demolition of the office and removal of debris will be completed in seven days after approval of the tender.
