Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan is oft-quoted for his persistent claims against the VIP culture in the country but often his own high-ranked leaders seem defying the popular claim.
Party leader Faisal Vawda was recently spotted riding a heavy motorbike while being guarded by at least four security vehicles, including police mobiles, in Karachi's Zamzama area.
"I have been attacked a couple of times recently and have such security with me for the last 20 years," Vawda told The Express Tribune on Monday.
PTI will soon come into power: Imran Khan
Last year in August, Vawda and Imran Ismail escaped an attack in Karachi’s Delhi Colony area with the latter claiming that assailants riding motorcycles opened fire on the vehicle from two sides. The two leaders remained unharmed as their vehicle was bulletproof.
Justifying his action, the PTI leader said he was fond of sports cars and bikes. "I am also a human being; I also have a heart to go out and enjoy the good weather," he said, adding that people had made an issue out of a routine ride "due to jealousy".
Vawda said he had the same protocol and security with him even before being affiliated with the PTI.
PTI to launch campaign against ‘VIP security’ after Eid
In December 2015, Imran vowed to impose a ban on stopping traffic for VIPs following a minor girl’s death in Karachi because of Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's convoy.
Similarly, the PTI chairman vowed in 2016 to quash such protocol for himself, saying he would no longer travel with high security.
