ISLAMABAD:
The Ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has finalised arrangements to upgrade 200 public educational institutions in the capital.
The upgrades are part of the second phase of the Prime Minister Education Reforms Programme.
“Construction work under phase-II of the project will start soon,” a senior CADD official told APP on Sunday.
The prime minister, he said, had approved the release of Rs1 billion for the project, while an additional Rs2 billion are expected to be released next month.
Around 200 schools and colleges in Islamabad would be provided with modern facilities including new classrooms and washrooms, laboratories, and libraries in addition to equipping them with new furniture, security gadgets and elevating boundary walls.
The official added that the prime minister’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz, was personally supervising all educational projects being executed in Islamabad.
The process for procuring construction material and other equipment for schools and colleges would be monitored by a steering committee headed by CADD Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, while a third party audit would be arranged to ensure the quality of work and transparency in the projects.
The 422 educational institutions of the capital were due to be upgraded under the reforms programme. In the first phase, 22 schools and colleges were upgraded with the construction of 70 additional classrooms, seven washrooms and new blocks.
