Academy plans: Training key to improving quality

NAB chief says academy would be established at bureau’s headquarters

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) accords high priority for the training of its investigation officers, prosecutors and staff.

This was stated by NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry while chairing a meeting at NAB Headquarters on Saturday to review progress and feedback on the training and capacity building, refresher courses conducted for the authority’s investigation officers and prosecutors by Training and Research Division during 2016.

During the meeting, Chaudhry noted that NAB accords high priority to training of its officers. He added that training was important for building capacity among officers. Moreover, he said training helps develop capabilities for enhancing practical and productive efforts.

With the authority tasked with eradicating corruption from the country and bring the guilty to book, he said that it was important for NAB officials to effectively execute its mandate.

Chaudhry said that NAB recognises the centrality of training as a tool for improvement and maintaining quality of personnel. In this regard, he said that a standardised syllabus for all investigation officers, refresher and capacity building courses on accounts, general financial rules, digital forensic, question documents and finger print analysis have been formulated by NAB to ensure quality and uniformity.

Academy

Chaudhry said that NAB plans to build its own training academy for its officers. He said that this academy would be established at the NAB Headquarters in Islamabad to cater to the capacity building training needs of its investigation officers and prosecutors along modern lines.

The NAB chief said that this academy would be set on the pattern of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA).

He directed the training and research division to provide a report on the current status of the anti-corruption training academy

Libraries

The NAB chief said that the authority had set up libraries at NAB Headquarter and NAB Regional Bureaus complete with judgements of different courts throughout the country to facilitate officials as they probe corruption cases.

He added that the NAB also has an e-library at NAB Headquarter which has over 40,000 electronic books related to law journals, yearly and monthly law reports.

Moreover, NAB plans to expand its access with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Library which would benefit NAB officials who are collecting information for expeditious disposal of cases as per laid down rules.
