Fast-bowlers Dale Steyn and Zaheer Khan are ready to lead their respective bowling attacks when South Africa and India meet in a blockbuster World Cup clash.
The duo have left a mark with their intelligent variations in previous matches. Zaheer has taken 11 wickets so far and his ability to reverse-swing the ball has taken batsmen by surprise. South Africa have Steyn keeping pressure from one end and spinners taking wickets from the other.
“You’ve got to be street-smart when you bowl in India. You can’t bowl the same pace at the same place as batsmen will work you out,” said Steyn.
India hope to profit from Kirsten’s inside knowledge
Meanwhile, India will be relying on coach Gary Kirsten for inside knowledge ahead of the important match.
Indian players have lauded the South African’s role in improving their performance, with maestro Sachin Tendulkar saying the team owed its successes to him. As he is unlikely to continue as coach after the World Cup, MS Dhoni’s team will be determined to cap his stint with a major success. “He’s the best thing that happened to Indian cricket,” said Dhoni.
Lee eyes speed
Brett Lee may be the oldest member of Australia’s fast-bowling attack but for him the thrill of doing what he does best remains undimmed.
“I’m still out to bowl fast,” said Lee. “I thrive on speed. I enjoy seeing stumps fly.”
Lee remains an important member of the defending champions’ bowling unit with extensive experience of local conditions. Australia captain Ricky Ponting recently said that Lee was bowling “smarter” than ever.
