SUKKUR: The court has sent the two men, accused of ordering a five-year-old boy to marry a seven-year-old girl, on a five-day remand.

The boy’s father Owais Chachar and the local landlord, Dilawar Chachar, were produced in the court of the first additional and sessions judge, Sukkur, Anand Ram, on Thursday. The children, Hafeeza and Tayyab, also appeared before the judge and were sent to their respective parents after a surety.

Sangi head constable Ghulam Mustafa Mirani told The Express Tribune that they have yet to catch Maulvi Qutubuddin Chachar, who solemnised the nikah on Tuesday. Earlier in February, a jirga led by Dilawar ordered the parents to marry the two to settle an old karo-kari dispute.

The jirga was being held to settle the Chachar family dispute that began when Ismail’s son Abdul Basit was declared karo with Owais’s daughter Afsana. Abdul Basit has been on the run since then while Afsana is living with her parents.
