Pakistani visitors: Ombudsman seeks report on strict China visa rules
Directs NADRA to file a report on absence of its facilities in Iran
ISLAMABAD:
The Federal Ombudsman (Wafaqi Mohtasib) asked the Foreign Office to submit a detailed report on issues being faced by Pakistanis in securing Chinese visas after enforcement of stringent rules and problems being faced by the Pakistani workers in Malaysia being bullied by local gangsters and inaction of Pakistani diplomats in Kuala Lumpur.
The Wafaqi Mohtasib also directed the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to file a report on absence of its facilities in Iran, creating immense problems for Pakistanis in the neighbouring country.
According to documents available with The Express Tribune, the Wafaqi Mohtasib summoned officials of the Foreign Office after receiving a complaint filed by a Pakistani citizen E* in which he pointed out that stringent rules were applied on Pakistanis who sought visas for China.
The complainant pointed out that the restrictions were not reciprocal and Chinese citizens did not have to face such strict visa rules when they applied for Pakistani visas.
The grievance commissioner for overseas Pakistanis at the office of the Federal Ombudsman, Hafiz Ahsan Khokar, said that a meeting had been scheduled with Foreign Office officials on February 2 to ask why things were so different for Pakistani and Chinese citizens.
Meanwhile, vice-chancellor of the Bunyad Literacy Community Council Shaheen Attiqur Rehman, also filed a complaint against Pakistani embassy in Malaysia.
She urged the federal ombudsman to tell officials at the Pakistan embassy in Kuala Lumpur to take appropriate action for facilitating and protecting all overseas Pakistani workers, being bullied by local gangsters as they are without any protection.
Expressing dismay over the condition of Pakistani workers, she said: “On my return from Kuala Lumpur, I was hurt to see our workers being deported.”
The letter stated: ‘Poor Pakistanis suffered because of the indifferent and arrogant attitude of our diplomats.”
Hafiz Ahsan Khokar stated that Pakistan’s mission in Iran also complained about the absence of NADRA facilities there.
A meeting has been scheduled with Nadra officials on February 3, he said.
