HARIPUR:
The authorities on Monday seized a small snack manufacturing unit in an Afghan camp and sealed it for selling unhygienic potato crisps. They also destroyed the seized stock.

Additional Assistant Commissioner Qaisar Khan told The Express Tribune that on receiving public complaints, he raided a house in Afghan camp No 16 near Dhenda village and found that the owner, also an Afghan refugee, was busy preparing potato crisps using substandard chicken oil.

He said that the process of frying and packing was also unhygienic and the owner has been marketing his products in Haripur and surrounding areas for several years.

He said that because the activity was against food safety laws, he sealed the house with machinery inside and destroyed a considerable quantity of crisps on the spot. Directives for the arrest of the owner and employees who fled during the raid have been issued.
