IMC to reduce supply from Simly Dam
Expect to balance shortfall from Khanpur Dam

ISLAMABAD:
In a move which is likely to exacerbate the abject water supply situation in the capital, the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) has decided to reduce water supply from Simly Dam.
Owing to the extended drought, the water level in the dam has decreased significantly. Hence, the IMC decided to reduce the water supply from the dam from 34 million gallons per day to just 24 million gallons per day.
According to a statement released by the IMC on Sunday, the move had been taken to maintain water level in the dam during the ongoing winter season and ensure smooth supply of water in the future.
It is expected that the recent spell of rain would help improve water levels in the dam.
Earlier, the IMC had increased amount of water the city was drawing from Simly Dam to balance overall supply of water to the city after inflow from Khanpur Dam fell and some tube wells were said to have stopped.
However, after supply of water from Khanpur Dam and other sources normalised, the IMC decided to reduce its dependence on Simly Dam.
