Fatal shoot-out: Police officer loses life in encounter

The injured constable was shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival

LAHORE: A police constable lost his life in an encounter with a proclaimed offender in Kasur on Friday while the suspect managed to flee.

Kahna police investigations in-charge Khalid Mehmood was leading a team to arrest a murder suspect, identified as Amir Shahzad, when he was shot dead.

Police received information that Amir, a proclaimed offender in many cases, was hiding in Ali Garh Basti. Khalid arranged a raiding party to arrest the suspect and surrounded the hideout.

Seeing the cops, the suspect tried to flee from the backdoor where Khalid was stationed. He opened fire at the officer and shot him three times before fleeing.

The injured constable was shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

A case (FIR 37/17) for the murder has been registered against Amir with B-Division police station in Kasur.

The Namaz-e-Janaza of the victim was offered at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines.Khalid lived in Gulshan-e-Ravi and joined police on June 15, 1983. The victim is survived by a widow and four children.
