Pakistan-Tajikistan trade potential to increase

Lack of private sector interaction limiting business.

ISLAMABAD:

Implementation of the Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA) will help increase bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Pakistan, according to Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Acting President Muhammad Tauseef Zaman.

Speaking at a meeting with a Tajik business delegation on Tuesday, Zaman said, “the Tajik government should ask Afghanistan for implementation of APTTA, which would help both countries in emerging trade activities by providing a land route to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).”

Zaman said that trade activities between the two countries had been limited due to lack of business delegations and interaction between the private sectors. He also urged companies to collaborate and inititate joint venture investments.

Tajik delegation leader Nekroy Zabirov said Tajik businessmen were interested in investing in sectors like cement, steel and energy as these showed great earnings potential.
