Gen Qamar Bajwa phones Afghan president, reiterates cooperation with Kabul to counter cross-border terrorism

Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has stressed the need of a robust border management mechanism and intelligence cooperation with Afghanistan to put an end to terrorists’ movement across the border.

He reiterated Islamabad's cooperation with the Kabul government during a telephone conversation with President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.



The chief of army staff also expressed sympathy with families of the victims who lost their lives in recent terror attacks in the war-torn country.


He emphasised that Pakistan has come a long way in its fight against terrorism of all hue and colour and successfully eliminated all safe havens in the process.

Gen Qamar gets invitation to visit Afghanistan

The elements inimical to peace in the region, Gen Qamar said, are strengthened by the blame game.

He went on to say that the two nations should rather focus on capitalising upon the gains of successful Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

President Ghani thanked Gen Qamar for his sentiments and reiterated that both the countries must work together for peace and stability in the region.
