Chasing 269 to win, visitors started well but once opener Sharjeel Khan got out in the 9th over, the team never managed to recover and kept losing wickets at the regular interval, and was eventually bowled out in the 43rd over at the score 176.
Young Babar Azam finished with the top score of 33 off 46 balls for Pakistan, whereas for Australia, all-rounder James Faulkner picked four and pacer Pat Cummins claimed three wickets.
Presentation ceremony:
Man of the match:
Mathew Wade: It feels great. It was challenging with the ball swinging and seaming around. Maxi [Glenn Maxwell] took pressure off me and it gave me time to settle. To be honest in the last over, I was extremely tired as I could hardly see the ball. We thought 268 was a fighting total on that pitch, as it was hard to score freely even once you get in.
Azhar Ali: It’s [hamstring]a bit sore but hopefully it will recover soon. Physio will have a better look at it and we will know by tomorrow how far I will go in this series. Full credit to the bowlers for the way they bowled, but we have to give full credit to [Mathew] Wade as he batted extremely well. 260 odd was achievable, all we needed was few good partnerships, but we kept loosing wickets.
Steve Smith: It was a pretty average start, but Mathew Wade played an exceptional innings. 270 was around par on that pitch but the bowlers did really well. I thought all of them bowled in good areas, and they used the change of pace really well.
The second match of the series will be played in Melbourne on Sunday. So till then, it goodbye from all of us here, and we will see you on Sunday hopefully. Cheers!
