It Runs In The Family: Sherbano Javeri And Hira Javeri
These sisters are two peas in a perfect pod!
Sherbano Javeri, Director of Marketing and Sales at Ali Javeri Jewellers and Hira Javeri, Creative Director at Ali Javeri Jewellers, talk sisterhood. From being stuck outside their apartment in the snow together to being each other’s first best friends, these sisters are two peas in a perfect pod
What is your first memory of each other?
Sherbano: When I was four years old, I remember my dad waking me up early in the morning to inform me that I had a new baby sister. I was so confused as to where this little sister had come from, and needless to say when I saw her for the first time I was not impressed. It meant that I was no longer the centre of attention.
Hira: I recall Sherbano always feeding me her unique late night snack creations.
What is the craziest thing you have done together?
Sherbano: I don’t think I should say what the craziest thing we’ve done together is, however I can say that most of the crazy things I’ve done in my life involve Hira being by my side and making me do them!
Hira: I think we have had too many crazy adventures — we tend to attract craziness. This one time we got locked out of our apartment in New York, during a really bad snowstorm. We were wearing flip-flops, and we didn’t have a phone or a jacket. Managing to find a way back into our apartment surrounded by five feet of snow was by far the craziest experience.
What did you get punished for the most as a child?
Sherbano: Breaking things! I once went to my mother’s friend’s house and ended up breaking a tea set while playing hide-and-seek. I later found out that it was a part of her soon to be wed daughter’s trousseau.
Hira: For being whiny! However, now it’s the contrary.
If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the others closet, what would it be?
Sherbano: We pretty much share everything so taking things from her closet is not a big deal, but if I had to choose one thing I would pick her lace up, platform boots.
Hira: It would definitely be her black, suede, fringe jacket. I’ve already stolen it from her.
What is the one thing you love about your sister?
Sherbano: Her patience and positive attitude.
Hira: That she is selfless and is always there for me.
If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would do?
Sherbano: I would actually love switching places with her right now, because that would mean I get to go back to New York.
Hira: Enjoy breaking all the rules, because my parents believe rules don’t apply to the eldest sibling!
If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up?
Sherbano: We usually can’t resist talking to one another for longer than a couple of hours. After a fight we give each other space and as soon as one of us strikes a conversation, everything goes back to being normal.
Hira: Our fights don’t last too long. We give each other some space, then eventually one of us says something funny and things just go back to normal.
What is the one secret talent your sister has, that you wish you had too?
Sherbano: She can get along with anyone and everyone.
Hira: She is a really good cook.
Describe your sister in three words:
Sherbano: Crazy, patient and creative.
Hira: Caring, beautiful and independent.
Which fictional character is your sister most like?
Sherbano: Rory from Gilmore Girls.
Hira: Lorelai from Gilmore Girls.
How are your personalities similar?
Sherbano: We have very different personalities but a similarity between us is that we are both big foodies.
Hira: We have completely different personalities, but I think the one thing we share is our sense of humour.
I can’t live without my sister because…
Sherbano: She is my best friend and I know, no matter what, she will always have my back.
Hira: She is my number one!
