Graft case: Court grants bail to five education board officials
The judge approved the bail after listening to a preliminary round of arguments by the defence and prosecution

An anti-corruption court granted on Tuesday bail to five educational board officials allegedly involved in a graft case.
The anti-corruption court, Karachi, judge granted bails to former Board of Secondary Education (BSEK) chairperson Anwar Ahmed Zai and former Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi chairperson Akhtar Ghori, former BIEK secretary Qazi Arshad, incumbent examinations controller Imran Chishti and one other official of the BIEK.
Among them, only Arshad was in custody and the decision regarding his bail plea was reserved on a previous hearing. Others appeared before the court on Tuesday and sought bail before arrest.
The judge approved the bail applications after listening to a preliminary round of arguments by the defence and prosecution. Each of the nominee was asked to submit a sum of Rs50,000 as surety.
According to the prosecutor Arif Sitai, the suspects are involved in embezzlement of fund allocated for procurement of furniture, stationery and other articles for colleges as well as in taking bribes and manipulating the results of students enrolled with the board.
On the other hand, the suspects refuted the allegations as baseless and tantamount to victimisation. The case is in initial stages. The interim charge sheet has yet to land in the court.
