Police performance: Crime rate decreases in Bahawalpur

Almost 70% of robbery cases reduced in region compared to 2015

In 2016, the crime rate has decreased in Bahawalpur as rooting out crime is the first priority of the police. Therefore, the victims should register cases immediately after the incident, said Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer Muhammad Idrees.

He was talking to the media at his office on Friday.

In 2015, throughout the Bahawalpur region, around 26,955 cases were registered while in 2016 a total of 26,165 cases were registered. Out of 56,623 criminals involved in these cases 48,035 have been arrested. Around 2,647 cases were dismissed as they were fake. Approximately, 301 murder cases were registered for which 798 criminals were arrested while 23 cases were dismissed as they were fake.


Similarly, 269 cases of attempted murder were registered out of which 1,111 involved criminals. 765 were arrested while 27 cases were dismissed.

Likewise, 414 cases of rape were registered out of which 106 cases were dismissed while 514 criminals were arrested. Similarly, three cases of gang rape were registered for which 9 criminals were arrested.

Around 33 cases of armed robbery were registered which are 70% fewer than the cases registered in 2015.  117 criminals involved in these cases were arrested and valuables worth Rs59 million were seized from their possession. Similarly, 40% fewer cases of street crime were registered in 2016 as compared to 2015. A total of 352 cases were registered - 25 were dismissed and  620 criminals were arrested while valuables worth Rs34 million were recovered from them.
