KARACHI:
An excellent bowling performance by Punjab propelled the hosts to a comfortable 82-run victory over Balochistan in the Pentangular Cup in Lahore.
Chasing 413 for victory, the visitors were all out for 330 despite a solid contribution from top-scorer Shoaib Khan (84), who had 15 boundaries to his credit. Saeed Anwar (59) and Imranullah Aslam (56) were the only others who resisted Punjab’s attack as the others crumbled under pressure.
Resuming on 145 for two, Balochistan quickly found themselves in trouble at 183 for four, before a 72-run partnership between Anwar and Aslam gave the innings some stability. However, the visitors collapsed to lose their last five wickets for just 75 runs.
Meanwhile, Punjab were happy with an all-round performance, with most of the bowlers chipping in. Sarmad Anwar dominated with four for 70, while first-innings hero, fast-bowler Muhammad Khalil, ended up with 11 wickets in the match, snaring three scalps in the second-innings.
The win opened Punjab’s account in the Pentangular Cup but Balochistan remain at the top of the table with 15 points despite the huge loss.
