KARACHI:
An anti-corruption court remanded on Thursday an official of the provincial college directorate to prison for one week in a graft case, seeking comments from the prosecution on his bail application.

Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) officers presented Qazi Arshad, who is currently serving at the directorate of college education as a deputy director of audits, before the judge.

ACE contended that the suspect was previously posted as a deputy secretary at the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, and during his service there between 2014 and 2016, he manipulated the results of students after receiving bribes.

He was accused of having embezzled a large sum in the procurement of furniture for colleges.

The judge sent the suspect to jail while directing the ACE officials to present the investigation report at the next hearing. Meanwhile, the judge also issued notices to the prosecution for hearing of the suspect's bail application on January 7.
