LAHORE: A session to raise awareness over the understanding of laws among women was postponed on Wednesday due to a gridlock in the city. The participants could not make it to the venue as a result of the traffic jam.

The session was organised by the Punjab University Gender Studies Department, in which social activists, journalists, teachers and students were supposed to take part. The session was postponed till Friday.

The Department of Gender Studies, Punjab University has conducted a research on the awareness of laws among women and will share its findings and other important data related to the research. The session will now be held on Friday with members of civil society who will discuss various aspects of laws and their implementation.

Observers say that there is a dire need to raise awareness among women of their legal rights. Many of them in the country are uneducated and therefore continue to suffer in Pakistan male-dominated society.
