Sarabjit Singh SC asked to re-open case over mistaken identity plea
A petition has been filed in the SC of Pakistan’s Lahore registry for reopening Sarabjit Singh’s case.
LAHORE:
A constitutional petition has been filed in the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan’s Lahore registry for reopening Sarabjit Singh’s case.
Advocate Awais Sheikh filed the petition on behalf of Sarabjit Singh at Lahore registry of the apex court. He said that the real culprit of bomb blast in Pakistan was Manjeet Singh and Sarabjit was convicted and sentenced.
Manjeet had been arrested in India in December 2010. Manjeet Singh, he said, was an international swindler, terrorist and a member of a criminal syndicate.
Counsel said that Manjeet had been frequently visiting Pakistan and in 1990 when the blast took place in Pakistan he was present in the country.
Advocate Awais Sheikh claimed that his client, Sarabjit was a victim of false identification and prayed to the court to order reopening and re-adjudication of the matter.
Sarabjit Singh, aka Jaljit singh, is an Indian citizen convicted for his involvement in 1990 serial bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan that killed 14 people. He claims that he is just a poor farmer and victim of mistaken identity.
