LAHORE: The chambers constructed illegally by lawyers at the Model Town courts on New Year’s night were demolished by authorities on Monday. No resistance was witnessed during the demolition, officials said.

Benefiting from the police engagements on December 31, several advocates had constructed more than 20 chambers on the court premises, including some public washrooms. They built their officers adjacent to the new complex, in front of the judicial lockup, outside the judges’ meeting room and in front of the court of Judicial Magistrate Zafar Fareed Jafri.

Late on Sunday night, the area police along with the district and sessions judge Nazir Ahmed Gajana visited the court, where the latter convinced the lawyers to take down the illegal structures.

Shehzad Khan Kakar, the Model Town courts vice-president, told The Express Tribune that illegal chambers were demolished without any major resistance from lawyers. He said that he would try to accommodate lawyers in the already established chambers.
