In 2016: Crime rate in Sargodha district decreases by 13%

Police claim only one case of robbery was reported this year

SARGODHA: This year Sargodha saw a drop in number of crimes in comparison to 2015, said police spokesman RPO Sargodha on Saturday.

He said 163 people were murdered in 2016 as compared to 187 murder cases reported during the year of 2015. He added that the crime rate decreased by 13% during the year 2016.

As many as 42 persons, including nine women committed suicide over different issues during the year.

According to a statistical report of the police, during 2016, a total of 350 cases of abduction were reported, whereas 75 cases of forcible fornication, 6 cases of gang rape while 75 cases of women desecration were reported in the district in 2016.

Only one case of robbery was reported this year in the district as compared to 15 robbery cases in 2015, so robbery incidents were decreased by 93 % whereas 18% incidents of motorcycle theft were also decreased this year. As many as 105 people were killed in traffic accidents during 2016.

The spokesman said the teams of different police stations of the district had arrested a total 351 court absconders, 2436 proclaimed offenders of which 612 were included in category A and 824 in Category B. During the drive against anti-social and criminal elements the police teams had recovered 50 Kalashnikovs, 6 hand grenades, 806 pistols, 195 Guns, 91 Revolvers and 150 Rifles along with 57698 cartridges, bullets and magazines.

Similarly, during drive against drug pushers the district police had also seized 450 kilogrammes of hashish, 15 kilogrammes of heroin and opium, 85,000 bottle of liquor along with 22 distilleries of liquor, he added.
